Insurance

When you move with Rose Moving and Allied International, you can rely a single, trusted person to help you throughout the process. Your coordinator:

We work hard to make sure that every move is packed properly, transported safely and unloaded professionally. However, in the rare event that one of your items is damaged, Allied International transit insurance will make sure you’re covered.

Why international transit insurance is important.

Most of our shipments arrive at their destination with very little or no damage, but accidents can and do happen for a variety of reasons. And, the effects of loss or damage can have serious, expensive consequences for those relocating.

Most international moves involve loading and unloading by shipping companies, handling agents and inspection by various officials. Each point of handling involves a degree of risk.

International transit insurance means you can rest easy that in the event of any loss or damage. Your valued possessions will be covered from the moment Allied International arrives at your residence, right through to when delivery is completed.

With international transit insurance:

  • Depending on the level of coverage you select, your possessions will be fully covered for loss or damage to all or any part of your consignment.
  • You’ll be covered for theft, loss, scratching, denting or breakage.
  • Your claims will be settled up to your insured value.
  • In most instances, we are able to settle claims directly with clients, which means your claim can be settled quickly and without fuss.
  • You get up to 60 days free insurance coverage while goods are in storage in approved facilities both pre and post move—for a total of 120 days free insurance coverage.
  • You’ll have access to ‘Pairs and Sets,’ ‘Mechanical and Electrical Derangement’ and ‘Mold and Mildew’ coverage.
  • Your claims will be settled in all major currencies by check, wire transfer or direct to your bank—whichever method is most convenient for you.
  • There is no deductible.

Replacement Value Insurance

This type of fully comprehensive insurance coverage will reimburse you for the loss or damage to all or any part of your consignment up to the item’s insured value. Alternatively, items may be repaired or replaced if appropriate, per the underwriter’s discretion.

You will be covered for theft, loss, scratching, denting or breakage. Replacement value insurance is highly recommended by Allied International so you’ll be totally covered for all major risks.

Replacement Value Insurance Exclusions

The major exclusions are as follows:

  • Damage by moth, insect or vermin. Insurers don’t regard this as a transit risk and, as such, don’t offer coverage for such damage.
  • Mold or mildew damage. Insurers have a view that mold and mildew may be inherent in most consignments due to moisture being trapped in a sealed environment such as a shipping container Therefore, they will not normally cover such a risk. However for an additional premium, coverage can be arranged.
  • Pairs and Sets damage. ‘Pairs and Sets’ refers to things such as a matching pair of vases or a dining room set. Normally, insurers will only pay for the article that is damaged. However, for an additional premium, you can be fully protected with ‘pairs and sets’ coverage.
  • Electrical and mechanical derangement. Sometimes, even when electrical or mechanical items have been correctly packed and handled, internal damage can occur. However, if no clear signs of external damage exist, insurers will not honor a claim. For an additional premium, coverage can be provided.
  • Creasing of garments. Even with the best care in the world, it is inevitable that some creasing of garments will occur due to the transit times typically involved with international moves. Therefore, wrinkled or creased clothing is not covered by the policy.
  • Additional exclusions: Exclusions also exist for jewelry, furs, money, stamp collections, precious stones, firearms, ammunition, drugs, hazardous goods and deterioration to foodstuffs and/or liquids.
  • Items confiscated due to regulatory requirements: In the event that you include any item that is against the regulatory requirements of your country of destination, and it is subsequently confiscated by customs or other officials, insurers will not pay out on such a claim.

If you choose not to insure

As you probably know, having no insurance carries significant risk and is not recommended. Even though you may have some legal recourse with shipping lines and airlines, this is limited by International Convention, which also normally puts proof of negligence on you, the customer. Add to these limitations the complexity of initiating litigation in another country and the risk to you becomes very real—with potentially devastating results.
